WOMEN TO HIGHLIGHT RETURN OF TOTALENERGIES EP UGANDA’S FOOTBALL MINI-LEAGUE

Buliisa, 29th April 2023 – The Buliisa Football Mini-League organized by TotalEnergies EP Uganda (TEPU) resumes following a 3-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 and Ebola outbreaks. The League will be conducted in partnership with the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) and the Buliisa District Football Association (DFA), and has attracted 96 football teams, 26 of which are women teams which will participate in the league for the first time. Diversity is very important for TotalEnergies and women inclusion in this mini league demonstrates our commitment to boost gender empowerment in Buliisa district.

All the games will take place in Buliisa District under the supervision of professional FUFA-accredited referees and in accordance with FUFA rules and regulations. The matches will be held at four different school playgrounds to include Uganda Martyrs, Avogera, Biiso, and Booma. To provide a conducive environment for the competition, TotalEnergies EP Uganda has facilitated their refurbishment.

Representing TotalEnergies EP Uganda at the League’s kick-off ceremony held at Biiso Primary School Grounds today, Mr. Damien BALOSSIER said, "We organize the League to promote sportsmanship, talent search, and development in the Company's areas of operation, and this aligns with the Company's commitment to youth inclusion and engagement with the host community,"  He added, "Social events like the Buliisa Football Mini-League evoke a spirit of unity and conviviality among communities and are in line with the third  UN Sustainable Development Goal: Good Health and Well-being."

The Buliisa District Police Commander (DPC), SP John C. Mwaule, the Guest of Honour thanked TotalEnergies EP Uganda for the mini league that is developing sports talent in the district and reminded the teams of Safety being a key priority. He encouraged the community to support their various teams safely and responsibly plus ensure no violence is incited at games and he cautioned the referees to be fair and neutral following the regulations of the games to ensure peace and harmony.

The League’s kick-off ceremony was graced by Buliisa Town Council leaders, and representatives from Kitara region Football Association and Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), as well as community members.
