UGANDA MARTYRS WOMEN FC & BUGOIGO LEOPARDS FC ARE WINNERS OF TOTALENERGIES EP UGANDA 2023 BULIISA FOOTBALL MINI-LEAGUE

Buliisa, May 20, 2023 – Uganda Martyrs Women FC has won the TotalEnergies EP Uganda 2023 Buliisa Football Mini-League finals which were played today at Ndandamire Primary School playground.

Uganda Martyrs  Women FC beat Nyamukuta Women FC by 1-0 to win the pioneer women’s league trophy. This is the first time Uganda Martyrs Women FC have participated and won the Mini-League, taking home the same cash prize of UGX 4M, as the winning goal was scored by Sheillar Tingira.

For the men’s league Bugoigo Leopards  FC beat Paraa Simba FC by 2-0 to win the trophy with the winning goal scored by Sony Odong and Kabon Living. Bugoigo Leopards  FC have been participating in the league since the first edition.

In addition to the cash prize for the winning team, additional prizes were awarded to;

  • Second Runner-up – Katanga United Women FC 
  • Woman of the Match – Sheila Tingira
  • Best Goalkeeper –Prisca Giramiya
  • Best Young talent –Everlyne Akello
  • Most Disciplined Team – Katanga United Women FC 
  • Top scorer –Lillian Ayiyorwoth
  • Best Mid fielder –Glossy Nuwabwone
  • Best Defender –Nesta Achungirwoth

MEN

  • First Runner-up- Paraa Simba FC
  • Second Runner-up- Nyamitete Simba FC 
  • Man of the Match (Finals) –  Oscar Orochi, Boigogo Leopards
  • Best Goalkeeper – Kugonza Derick
  • Best young talent – Kato Godfrey
  • Most Disciplined Team – Nyamitete Simba FC 
  • Best player – Living Kabong
  • Top scorer – Kabon Living
  • Best Mid fielder – Onen Vivian
  • Best Defender – Abedaka Walter

All teams and individual players also received certificates.

This year’s Mini-League attracted 96 football teams from all sub-counties in the Buliisa district. 26 of these were women's teams competing for the first time in TotalEnergies EP Uganda's annual Mini-League, which was organized in partnership with the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) and the Buliisa District Football Association (DFA).

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Mini-League, Mr. Mazen ABI-AZAR representing TotalEnergies EP Uganda said, ‘I congratulate all the teams, especially the finalists, on the great show of talent and sportsmanship," We are committed to supporting you on this journey because promoting talent, youth inclusion, and development are some of our corporate social responsibility pillars.

The level of sportsmanship exhibited by all the participants is commendable and we are particularly proud of the high level of talent in the sport showcased by the female teams" he added.

He also thanked the Buliisa District Football Association, Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), and the Buliisa community for partnering with TotalEnergies EP Uganda to organise a successful Mini-League and encouraged the football teams to start preparing for the next tournament, which is set to take place in 2024.

The League’s closing ceremony was officiated by Buliisa County MP, Hon Allan Atugonza and attended by various local and district leaders including the Woman MP – Hon Norah Bigirwa-Nyendwoha, Chief Administrative Officer –Mr. Erisu Peter EMWOS, Deputy CEO Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) - Mr. Kiiza Decolas and representatives from the Petroleum Authority of Uganda.
