TOTALENERGIES EP UGANDA SPONSORS UGANDAN DRILLING ENGINEERS TO TRAIN IN FRANCE FOR OIL & GAS

TotalEnergies EP Uganda has flagged off 12 Ugandan youths to undergo further training at the French Petroleum Institute (IFP) school in Paris, France. This is part of the company’s capacity building initiatives towards enabling Ugandans to actively particpate in the country's oil and gas sector. 

The trainees who had been recently recruited for the positions of Drilling & Wells Engineers left for France at the end of April 2022. They include; Raymos Kimanzi, Bruno Ariganyira, Edwin Gwavu, Luswata Gladys Nakuya, Henry Kwesigwa, Nalinnya Yvonne, Tabule Jolley Joseph, Natalie Ndagire, Ian Anyine, Brian Sunday, Saxon Ssekitooleko and Diana Asiimwe.

Since 2013, TotalEnergies EP Uganda has offered scholarships to students at various levels of education including O’Level, A’level, vocational training and university level. Some of the most recent education programmes undertaken include;

  • On January 10th, 2022, as part of its Truly Ugandan national content campaign, the Company also launched the Tilenga Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) aimed at identifying, training and recruiting over 120 Ugandans for the Tilenga project.
  • In 2021, the Company sponsored 3 scholars who were identified and selected to pursue Masters’ programs in Geoscience disciplines at IFP School.
  • TotalEnergies EP Uganda sent 6 well site Geologist trainees to France on March 12th, 2022, as part of the process to obtain their Well Site Geology certification training. After the training, the team will undergo two site rotations on an active site to ensure they are fully certified.

The Company has also carried out other technology transfer and capacity building activities such as supporting oil and gas related courses at Makerere University under the Total Professeurs Associés (TPA) programme among others.

TotalEnergies EP Uganda aims at offering youth educational opportunities in top institutions and this will contribute to a pool of trained resources within the country with the capacity to participate in the overall development of the country’s oil and gas resources and other sectors.
