TOTALENERGIES EP UGANDA PARTNERS WITH ECOTRUST TO PROMOTE TREE GROWING IN BULIISA AND NWOYA DISTRICTS

Kampala, Uganda, May 02, 2022- Total Energies EP Uganda has partnered with Environmental Conservation Trust of Uganda (ECOTRUST), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to implement a tree growing program in Tilenga project areas of Nwoya and Buliisa districts.

The project will be undertaken over a period of 12 months commencing in 2022 and will result in the planting of over 100,000 trees covering 250 hectares of land in various public spaces like schools, hospitals and road reserves.

The execution of the tree planting project will be supported by 6,000 community volunteers including youth and women who will be recruited to plant and monitor 17 trees each.  

Speaking at the signing of the MoU, Mr Philippe Groueix, TotalEnergies EP Uganda said, “This initiative is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility program in line with Government objectives to reforest the country through the ‘’Running Out of Trees’’ campaign. This partnership is undertaken in the spirit of Standing Together, as part of TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s ongoing collaborative activities and commitments, to promote and protect environment and biodiversity while working closely with NGOs and the community in our area of operation.”

TotalEnergies EP Uganda has already initiated a wide range of social programs like the Kirama water project, the reconstruction and equipping of the Avogera Health Center III outpatient department unit, road safety awareness campaigns, donation of beds to Anaka Hospital as well as education scholarship programs among many others.
