Total E&P Uganda wins the Africa Leadership Awards 2016 Oil and Gas Sector Award

Kampala, 13 December 2016​

Total E&P Uganda has emerged the overall winner of the Oil and Gas Sector Award at the Africa Leadership Awards 2016, held recently at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. The Africa Leadership Awards seek to honour top achievers and leaders for their exemplary contributions towards global growth in economic and leadership development.

This admirable achievement exhibits Total E&P Uganda’s continuous efforts to be a company of excellence in areas related to oil and gas, environment, tourism and biodiversity protection as well as the promotion of national content. The company has pioneered technologies such as 3D cable-less seismic and horizontal drilling in its efforts to minimise its environmental footprint during its activities.

Nominations were requested from organisations and individuals and the final selection of winners made on the basis of results from a public poll and professional judges’ assessment. The award to Total was handed over by the Minister of State for Youth and Children’s Affairs, Florence Nakiwala Nakiyingi, on behalf of the President who got held up by other state duties. To receive the award on Total E&P’s behalf was Mr Guy Maurice, the Senior Vice President for Africa, accompanied by Mr Adewale Fayemi, the General Manager, Total E&P Uganda.

Upon receipt of the award, Mr Fayemi said, “This award certifies that Total E&P Uganda has a truly talented, innovative, cross-functional and dedicated team of staff working towards a similar goal of delivering a project that is socially and environmentally responsible. We are immensely proud of this recognition and we continue to commit ourselves to delivering the very best expertise and technology geared towards the sustainable development of Uganda. The award is also an incitement to continue the innovation journey. Congratulations to the team at Total E&P Uganda. I am so proud of leading such a team.”

He also reiterated the company’s continued commitment to maintaining operational excellence while ensuring environmental protection by adhering to the local and international regulations such as the IFC standards known for being the most stringent on biodiversity and environment.

Total E&P Uganda began operations in the Lake Albert region in 2012 and is the operator of Exploration Areas 1 and 1A. The company along with CNOOC and Tullow has so far received production licences for the nine fields in the Albertine Region. The granting of these production licences paved the way for the company and other stakeholders to make considerations for significant long term capital and infrastructure investments in Uganda.

At the event were other top Total executives including Mr Javier Rielo, Vice President E&P Eastern Africa, and Mr Martin Krzewski, New Ventures Project Director, Total E&P.
