Queen Eagles Women FC and Coo-Rom Young Stars FC win TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Nwoya Football Mini- league

Nwoya, September 16, 2023, - Queen Eagles Women FC and Coo-Rom Young Stars FC have won the TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Nwoya Football Mini-league grand finale held today, at Anaka Primary school playground in Nwoya District.

The exciting and much-awaited annual tournament is organized by TotalEnergies EP Uganda in partnership with the Nwoya District Football Association and has attracted over 50 teams from the district’s sub-counties and town councils. The 50 teams participated in the pre-selection tournament, from which 16 teams for men and for the first time 8 teams for women participated in the league’s quarter and semi-finals that led to the grand finale. TotalEnergies is supporting women participation in football to ensure gender inclusion and equal opportunities for all.

Queen Eagles Women FC and Coo-Rom Young Stars FC Men FC won the grand finale with 2:1 against Queen Lioness FC and Coo-Rom Young Stars FC drew 1:1 against Young Elephant Academy FC, respectively before beating Young Elephant Academy FC in penalty shoot-out, thus taking the trophies. The winning teams won trophies and together with the first and second runners received cash prizes, medals, sports regalia, and certificates. More outstanding participants were recognized and awarded, including the best Manager, Coach, Captain, Midfielder, Defender, Top scorer, Goalkeeper, Man and Woman of the match, as well as the most disciplined teams.

Speaking at the grand finale, Caroline Namyalo, representing TotalEnergies EP Uganda, congratulated all teams for their participation, especially the finalists for their show of talent and prowess. She said, "We are happy and committed to organizing this annual league because football is more than just a sport; it creates moments of celebration, it is an expression of collective joy, and it is a health activity that provides for youth and women's inclusion as well as talent promotion, which are crucial for peaceful coexistence and development in our areas of operation."

TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Nwoya Football mini league is in line with the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility pillars including Youth Inclusion, Education, Talent Development and Creating Value for People.

The Nwoya Football Mini-league grand finale was officiated by Hon. Emmanuel Orach, the Nwoya District Chairperson as well as, representatives from the Federation of Uganda Football Association, the Northern Region Football Association, the Uganda Petroleum Authority, district leaders and community members.

  • This year, over 50 teams from all the sub counties and town councils in the district participated in Nwoya Talent Cup and the 16 qualifying teams for men have played in the TEPU football mini league.

  • The tournament is an exciting and much awaited annual event in the district as supported by TotalEnergies EP Uganda and organized in partnership with District Football Association.

  • Speaking at the event, TotalEnergies EP Uganda was represented by Caroline Namyalo, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager who congratulated all teams for their participation especially the finalists on the show of talent and prowess.

  • In addition, community health services have been provided including: free HIV testing and counselling, pyscho-socio support, and awareness on non-communicable diseases plus general health wellness awareness.
