BULIISA LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERS VISIT TILENGA PROJECT SITES

Thursday 21st July 2022: Elected members of the Buliisa Local Government Council visited different sites of the Tilenga Project on a familiarization tour.  The team led by the LCV Chairperson Fred Lukumu, comprised of Councilors and LC III Chairpersons of all seven sub-counties together with a security team led by the District Internal Security Official (DISO), who represented the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Buliisa District.

PURPOSE OF THE VISIT

The purpose of the visit to the operation areas was to acquaint the group with the progress of the Tilenga Project in Buliisa District. The team undertook a tour of the Industrial Area (IA) that will host the Central Processing Facility (CPF), to witness on going project activities.

In addition to the IA, they also visited one of the resettlement houses, which is part of the TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) housing project for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and a cassava garden of Patrick Semoga, a PAP who is a beneficiary of the Livelihood Restoration Program. Observing and listening to the success story of Semoga, the Buliisa district speaker, Fred Baligambaki, commended the work TotalEnergies EP Uganda, and partners have accomplished this far.

EXPRESSION OF GRATITUDE

“We are very happy with the support TotalEnergies EP Uganda has given to our people and encourage them to continue with the great work,” said Baligambaki. Baligambaki used the same platform to request TotalEnergies EP Uganda and the Government of Uganda to start an irrigation program for other local farmers who were not PAPs.  

Semoga, one of the RAP-1 program beneficiaries has bought and cultivated an extra seven acres of land; building on the one acre and growing nine bags of cassava cuttings that were provided by TotalEnergies EP Uganda as compensation on the rest of his land.

The leadership delegation was received by a TotalEnergies EP Uganda team led by the civil works supervisor Engineer James Amale, the Public Relations & Public Affairs Coordinator Christopher Ocowun, Public Relations Officers Jonah Byakutaaga & Benedict Okethwengu and Jane Edith Nyendwoha the Site Land Coordinator.
